The Washington Area Film Critics Association, of which I am a proud member, has released its 2011 movie awards and we’ve got them here for you. You can check out the full list below, but for people too lazy to click the link I’ll tell you that The Aritist won best pictures while Martin Scorsese won Best Director for his work on Hugo. Even more surprising is that there was no big winner this year. The awards went to several different films instead of one big sweep, which often happens.
I have to say that this year I am more in agreement with the winners than I ever have been before. Rango was a fantastic animated movie and the screenply for 50/50 was brilliant. In fact my only major disagreement with my fellow D.C. area critics is The Skin I Live In winning Best Foreign Language Film. It was good, but I thought 13 Assassins just stood out more. Check out the rest of the winners below along with the nominees.
