Our first glimpse of J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek Into Darkness will come on December 14th in the form of a nine-minute prologue on 3D IMAX screens. Basically, you’ll be getting a fix of Star Trek 2 before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It’s like what happened with The Dark Knight and I Am Legend, and ditto The Dark Knight Rises and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
The Star Trek Into Darkness prologue isn’t the only goodie attached to The Hobbit, however. The Film Stage notes that a new trailer for Zack Snyder’s The Man of Steel and the trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim are attached as well. No word on if wet naps, rubber seat covers, or talcum powder will be provided with each screening.
Star Trek Into Darkness will be out in theaters on May 17th, 2013. I’m pretty sure we’ll have some coverage of the prologue in mid-December.
