By Despite a couple of new releases this weekend, both Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dune: Part Two have remained at the top of the box office charts. In a fierce battle, Po and friends managed to beat out Paul Atreides’ jihad for a second domestic weekend total of $30 million. House Atreides wrangled up $29.1 million, which puts the total gross of Denis Villeneuve’s latest at roughly $205 million. Not bad.
Third place went to new release Arthur the King, with $7.5 million for its debut. There’s a wide variance in its reported budget, with Deadline Hollywood stating it is between $19-40 million. Either way, this debut isn’t great and it seems as if the latest Mark Wahlberg film won’t finish in the black.
No matter. Lionsgate is likely happy that Imaginary took in another $5.6 million for its second weekend, bringing that total up to $19 million overall. LA Times puts the budget at $12 million, so the film has already become a small hit.
Rounding out the top 10 comes Cabrini with $2.8 million. This film may just go down as the biggest bomb of 2024, with the reported budget of $50 million being barely touched by even the international gross. While the film hasn’t opened in many international markets, $90,202 is a dire number. That barely brings the total up to anything respectable. Ah well.
