With this fact in mind, it’s a little surprising that none of her children’s or young-adult novels have been made into big screen movies, especially with the number of lesser books in the genre that have. However, that fact is about to be remedied by Blume herself. She has announced that she and her son, Lawrence, are working on a screenplay based on her book Tiger Eyes.
Blume’s son will be directing the film and their production company, Tashmoo Productions, will be producing — because that’s what production companies do. Thankfully, Blume and her son are the ones adapting the screenplay, so we won’t have a host of 20-30 something women writhing on the floor in seizures as one of their favorite childhood books is ripped to shreds by a screenwriter who didn’t actually care about it.
Blume’s books, especially Tiger Eyes, often dealt with heavy “adult” emotions, so it will be interesting to see how that translates into a children’s film or if the target demographic will be a more angsty…
