Review: Devil

Another M. Night Shyamalan “horror” movie, oh joy. But also another (for the most part) single-location movie, yay 😀

I must confess Shyamalan movies haunt me from time to time. Not because they’re so scary, but because talking about them to other people is a pain in the ass. If you talk about The Sixth Sense, it almost always boils down to the twist, which is cool but the joke is getting old. Same goes for Unbreakable which I still enjoyed. And I liked The Village, but I always found the marketing strategy to be very very wrong. The Village was marketed as a horror (the trailers where definetely cut in that way), which it simply isn’t. It’s more a love story than anything else if you ask me. IMDb says it’s a mysterie, well that can mean pretty much anything, but fair enough. A lot of people went to the cinema with wrong expectations, and thus found the movie quite boring. That’s a shame.

So now we have Devil. This time “horror” fits alot better, and the movie seems to get along without the usual braintwisting … twists Shyamalan is known for. Some might be let do

So now we have Devil. This time "horror" fits alot better, and the movie seems to get along without the usual braintwisting … twists Shyamalan is known for. Some might be let down by that, but I think Devil is a sweet little flick, interessting, compact and straight to the point.

The story of Devil is very straight to the point as well. Five Strangers meet in an Elavator
