The Weinsteins are a wreck, M&Ms lovers

It must be that “Sue the Weinstein’s” time of year. Not only is Michael Moore suing the brothers for cheating him out of profits for 2004’s Fahrenheit 9/11, filmmakers Tony Leech and Brian Inerfeld are accusing Bob and Harvey of paying them hush money to put off dealing with a $54 million fraud lawsuit until after the Oscars, so as to not affect The King’s Speech’s chances at the awards show.

Inerfeld and Leech’s complaint (the whole 60-page diatribe is located here) is pretty much the best thing ever. They say that not only were the brothers paying them the hush money, but were trying to sabotage their next film, Escape from Planet Earth. The complaint compares the Weinsteins to “a real life version of Bialystock & Bloom” from Mel Brook’s The Producers. But that’s not even the best part. There’s a yarn in there about how Harvey, a diabetic, attempted to eat an entire bowl of M&Ms. He struggled with a studio executive who feared for Harvey’s health, and the candies ended up on the floor. Then, during the screening of a movie, Harvey spent the whole time on his hands and knees eating the candied delicacies off of the ground. The Weinsteins have responded, saying the lawsuit is “frivolous”.

Between this, and Charlie Sheen’s new found genius, it’s shaping up to be a pretty hilarious March in the film industry.
