In the past two or three years, there have been some great war documentaries to come out (Restrepo comes to mind). But Armadillo is a beast to its own. Filmed over the course of a six month tour of duty in 2009, the filmmakers follow the lives of a unit of Danish soldiers in Afganistan. The result is nothing short of astounding.
Featuring some the most beautiful cinematography and well composed hand held shots I’ve seen in a long time, Armadillo has quickly made my list of movies to check out this year. And that was before what is probably the most powerful shot of the trailer: a soldier going through shell shock while getting patched up, his eyes not being able to concentrate anywhere. What do you fine folk think?
