Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg must’ve really enjoyed working together on The Other Guys, because they’ve just signed on to do it again for the just-announced comedy Turkey Bowl. The film centers on two neighbors that lead rival squads in an annual tackle football game. The always awesome Alec Baldwin will join them, playing the father of Wahlberg’s character.
While no director has been set, the script will be penned by 30 Rock showrunner Robert Carlock and Scott Silveri, with Wahlberg, Ferrell and frequent Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay producing. The Turkey Bowl team wants to match the tone of the football scenes with that of the newsteam brawl from Achorman, with over-the-top action and a slew of cameos from other comic actors. That alone has me totally sold on this idea.
Wahlberg and Farrell spent most of The Other Guys hating each other, so we know they can pull off the “bitter rivals that eventually learn to respect one another” roles pretty easily. Personally, I loved The Other Guys and it’s been a long while since I enjoyed a sports comedy, so color me excited for Turkey Bowl. In fact, the last sports comedy I liked? Will Ferrell’s 2008 basketball flick Semi-Pro.
