Paramount and Fox have announced today that they’ll be re-releasing my old friend Jimmy Cameron’s initial drop into pretentiousness, Titanic, next year in Cameron-Vision™ 3D. The movie will be in theatres on April 6, 2012, which is the 100 year anniversary of the titular ship’s sinking. Cameron had this to say about the re-release:
There’s a whole generation that’s never seen “Titanic” as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. And this will be “Titanic” as you’ve never seen it before, digitally re-mastered at 4K and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike.
Honestly, who’s actually excited about this? I’m really curious to see who all is actually pumped about paying $15 for a movie you’ve already seen before, but digitally remastered and in 3D. We all know this is going to be successful for all parties involved, but I can’t help but think that there are better movies to re-release. What do you guys think? Is there another movie you’d rather see re-released?
