By 2002’s The Count of Monte Cristo with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce, adapted from Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel, was a brilliant movie and one worthy of all its praise. Not 10 years later have plans of adapting the novel once again been considered. This time, the setting will be a futuristic one. It is not yet known whether it will take place on futuristic Earth or in Space, though I’m sure we could all imagine a far more epic story being told in Space. The adaptation, simply titled Cristo, has not yet found a director, but a script is now being sent around to attract one. Warner Bros. is producing the Ian Shor-written script.
This is an interesting time we live in, folks. Since every movie concept ever made has either been done already or redone in remakes, the movie industry has turned to placing classic stories in different settings. This, in turn, makes everything new again, but in an old new way. Transformers, for example, was really Shakespeare’s Hamlet… but then they completely redid the entire story and added robots and sh!t.

Dantes is imprisoned on the island prison of Chateau d’If for 14 years, where he plots revenge against those who betrayed him. With the help of another prisoner, he escapes the island and proceeds to transform himself into the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo as part of his plan to exact revenge.
