Vivi Friedman’s The Family Tree, based off of this recently released trailer, reminds me a lot of Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums. Those that know me know I consider The Royal Tenenbaums as Anderson’s black sheep of his film family. However, this film doesn’t revolve around the whimsical fancies of Anderson’s universe. What it does revolve around, however, is a dysfunctional family whose matriarch has a slight spell of amnesia. What transpires next is the family’s attempt at becoming functional while their female authoritative figure is in a questionable state of mind.
Also, Chi McBride’s sex is what causes it. Spoiler alert! The Family Tree is out in theaters on August 26th.
