Spaceless to be unintentional Futurama homage

Cary Fukunaga (is that Korean?), who last directed Jane Eyre (some movie about chicks, I think), some Spanish movie called Sin Nombre and a bunch of shorts before that, is now helming a sci-fi flick called Spaceless. Gore Verbinski is producing, who, if you’ll remember, directed the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies and, um, MouseHunt… Now, I’m not saying anything bad about sweater vests, but I wouldn’t produce a movie for a guy who wears them. The plot of Spaceless is much cooler-sounding than it logically should be:

The story centers on an assassin who wakes up inside a spacesuit tumbling helplessly through space, with a computer designed to keep him company until his air runs out. He must try to solve the mystery of his death, which began when he broke into an orbiting space station to carry out a hit. The man, however, begins to question his reality, unsure if he is succumbing to madness or in an artificially created environment.

Despite what I think about the somewhat dubious director, I’m eager to see this film already. It sounds like a triumvirate of the classic Futurama episode, “Godfellas” (where Bender is the god of a microscopic civilization in space), 2001: A Space Odyssey and Source Code all rolled up into one. My movie senses are tingling, and the tingles say to watch out for this movie.
