New Tintin poster has a summer home in the Uncanny Valley

For better or worse, I’m pretty pumped for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. While Rise of the Planet of the Apes has shown us that a digital performance through modern performance capture technology can yield impressive results, Hollywood may never understand that the technology simply cannot do humans. Even the stylized people in Tintin just look wrong. Look at the newest poster, specifically at Tintin himself. Go ahead, click it in the gallery, have a look, then come back.

The twins and Captain Haddock look ok, but Tintin looks like a plastic face with a dead person’s eyes set into the sockets. It looks like a fresh corpse has been risen from death, but it came back wrong. Like there’s some slithering, impossible evil just below the surface in those cold, dead eyes.

Anyway, Tintin‘s out in December. I’m there regardless of the Elder Horror lurking beneath Tintin’s face.
