So this is certainly unique. The Artist is a black and white, silent film about the fall of a silent movie star amidst the rise of sound. It apparently tore the Cannes Film Festival up, prompting it to be purchased for a high price by those wacky Weinstein brothers and their company that definitely puts filmmakers first and their own opinions second. Am I being too cynical? I’ll tone it down.
This looks like it could be pretty special. I’m always thrilled when modern filmmakers try to make an older-style picture as authentically as possible, and The Artist looks like it will travel with live musical accompaniment, and I’ll be able to see it with my Paw at the Egyptian for a nickel. Basically, it looks really great, and I can’t wait to see it.
