When was the last time an actor dropped news that a sequel to a popular franchise would be happening, and it actually happened? Not too often, really. But here we are with Bruce Boxleitner saying Tron 3 is a done deal, and that it’ll be in theatres in 2013. At least, that’s what the man said at D23 a couple weeks ago.
Let’s take a step back and think about this for a second. Tron: Legacy wasn’t the biggest hit ever. It was profitable, sure, but was it enough to warrant a sequel? Disney execs have stayed pretty tight-lipped about it so far. While I’d assume that a writer would be coming on board soon to write the sequel, I doubt the movie would be ready by 2013. 2014 sounds much more realistic, since Disney seems to be testing the waters with their Tron: Uprising cartoon next year. I’m sure that if the cartoon is a hit, Tron 3 will get the green light.
