As David Fincher’s version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo approaches, so do the marketing tie-ins. A fashion line inspired by The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will be launched at H&M on December 14th. The film’s costume designer Trish Summerville teamed with H&M to create a look that evokes the Lisbeth Salander character. (Which is also Storm from the X-Men when she had a mohawk or Callisto from the Morlocks.)
No news yet on the Dragon Tattoo furniture line at IKEA or the Lisabeth Salanderwich combo meal at Subway.
There have been other peculiar movie marketing tie-ins over the years, of course, though only two come to mind at the moment. In 2009, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from the Guy Ritchie movie were used to sell 99 cent taquitos at 7-11. (Taquitos were a traditional snack in Victorian England.) Much stranger, however, was the Krull-themed group wedding in the summer of 1983. This marketing nuptial event took place before the film was released, perhaps much to the chagrin of the 24 poor mooks who got hitched that day.
