Michael K. Williams, star of The Wire, Boardwalk Empire and occasional guest spots in Community (please watch it, Nielsen households of America! Or at least leave it on in the background for the rest of our sakes…), has unfortunately missed out on a role in Quentin Tarantino’s western Django Unchained due to scheduling conflicts – with the part he was in talks to play now being removed from the movie altogether – but has secured a role alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Snitch.
Williams will play a drug dealer – no typecasting here, then – whom Johnson’s character intends to serve up to the DEA in exchange for his son getting a lighter prison sentence. The movie is based on a true story and already has Susan Sarandon attached and Barry Pepper possibly up for a supporting role. It all sounds awfully similar to ground Williams has already covered on The Wire, which makes him a pretty good selling point for everyone still in mourning after David Simon’s series came to an end three years ago. Plus there’s The Rock, who is always good value for money, even when engaging in a spot of sweaty tantric combat with Vin Diesel.
