Ok, calling the first clip from Paul Thomas Anderson’s not-about-Scientology-at-all-why-would-you-even-say-that picture The Master a “trailer” isn’t precisely accurate, but having read the script (hint hint, it’s amazing), this actually works startlingly well in terms of setting the tone of the film and the groundworks for Joaquin Phoenix’s character Freddie, though Philip Seymour Hoffman, the titular Master, is nowhere to be found. This film rightly earned a place in our list of anticipated movies for 2012, and with an October release date looming, expect to see some more out of The Master in the near future.
