Hammer is the iconic studio of British horror, particularly those swank period Dracula and Frankenstein movies starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. They’ve been making a comeback after years in limbo, one harkened by Let Me In (the English-language remake of Let the Right One In), the Daniel Radcliffe vehicle The Woman in Black, and the book The Hammer Vault by Marcus Hearn. Now Hammer has caught up with the interwebs and has their own YouTube channel.
So far the YouTube channel for Hammer includes a short montage on the history of the studio, select trailers, a brief behind-the-scenes preview of their forthcoming film The Quiet Ones, and, most important, free Hammer movies. There are currently five Hammer films on the YouTube channel: The Quatermass Xperiment, Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter, Dick Barton – Special Agent, The Last Page (aka Man Bait), and The Man in Black (no relation to the Woman). Each is preceded by a brief intro — two by Hearn, the others by Robert J.E. Simpson.
As of this writing, Quatermass and Captain Kronos are not available to watch in the United States. Hopefully this changes, and by that I mean, come on — we Yanks are down with those movies too. Throw the colonies a bone.
For more updates, trailers, features, and free films, visit the Hammer Films YouTube channel.
