By Harry Houdini is one of my most favorite people of all time. But the fact that a good biopic based on his life hasn’t been made yet is kind of a tragedy. The dude lead such an incredible and interesting life that it’s almost baffling how no one has had the gall to adapt his life to celluloid yet.
Apparently, Summit has had the rights to the best Houdini biography out there, 2007’s The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero, and have been quietly shopping the project around for a while. At one point, Gary Ross was looking to direct, but dropped out. Now though, it seems Joe Wright (of Hanna fame) is eying the script. At least, that’s what the LA Times is reporting.
From what I remember of Hanna (I haven’t seen it since its release), Wright’s direction led to a great little movie. His vision would be a great fit for Houdini. Though I can’t help but think what Chris Nolan and co. could do with the material. Oh my lord, McCord, that could make for a perfect magician film!
