By Bryan Singer made it official last night: he is the director of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Singer replaces X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn, who left the production last week for unspecified reasons. The film is scheduled to start production in January 2013.
Singer directed the first X-Men film which came out in 2000, and the 2003 sequel X2. He then left the series to direct Superman Returns, leaving the X-Men franchise in the smelly, inept, possibly grimy hands of Brett Ratner. The result was a dour, middling Superman movie and the cheap-looking crapola X-Men: The Last Stand.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for a July 18th, 2014 release. Getting this deal squared away quickly makes it seem like they’ll hit that mark… unless the film experiences a similar fate as Singer’s much-delayed Jack the Giant Slayer (previously Jack the Giant Killer). Once slated for June 2012, Jack now comes out March 2013.
