Netflix Now: Abe Froman’s Got a Posse Edition

0

Lots of titles showed up on Netflix Watch Instantly since last week: 201 by my count. Three of them are quintessential 1980s movies: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Trading Places, and Scrooged. If you haven’t seen any of these movies, you no longer have an excuse.

As for the other 198 titles, lots of variety. There’s the apparently addictive House of Cards, A Liar’s Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman, The Raven, Nacho Libre, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Phat Beach starring Coolio.

For a retro geek like myself, I’m really excited to see the silent Fantomas serial from 1913 as well as The Man From Beyond starring the one and only Harry Houdini. There’s also the acclaimed 1962 samurai film Harakiri, the 1929 Russian silent documentary Man with a Movie Camera, and the nunsploitation movie The Sinful Nuns of St. Valentine. (Full disclosure: I did at one time own a VHS copy of that movie. As a collector, okay — as a high-school-aged VHS collector.)

Everything else is a blur of red eye and carpal tunnel.

After the cut, all the new titles on Netflix Watch Instantly. Also: the worst thing to come out of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Dusty Rhodes may issue a challenge to Abe Froman (the sausage king of Chicago), and a nod to a Ferris Bueller knock-off.
