Last month we posted the first trailer for Danny Boyle’s Trance, starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, and Vincent Cassel. It looked like your basic art caper/crime film at first, but then it shifts into psychological thriller mode, using hypnosis and hypnotic suggestion to manipulate memories and break a person’s mind. Here’s a basic synopsis:
An art auctioneer who has become mixed up with a group of criminals partners with a hypnotherapist in order to recover a lost painting.
While streaming this new trailer for Trance, I started to wonder why it got the red band distinction. And then something happened that literally made me say, “Oh… Yeah, that’s why.” I won’t say what it is, but it makes this movie look more like a potential mindf**k than just a standard psychological thriller.
Trance will be out in the UK on March 27th, and then out in the United States on April 5th.
