Denzel Washington has been on a string of misses lately. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s past his prime, or can’t seem to hone in on the right material anymore, but I’ve been waiting for something that can bring the big man back. Sony seems to be banking on The Equalizer as they’re already planning a franchise (with a confirmed sequel) due to positive response to early screenings.
With this first trailer, I’m stoked. Washington seems to be doing what he does best as he becomes a one man vendetta machine. Although it’s adapted from an old television show, I’m getting a slight Man On Fire (one of my all time favorites) vibe from this. The Equalizer opens September 26th. Here’s the synopsis:
[via Collider]Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.
