While I may only like a small selection of Studio Ghibli’s films, there’s no mistaking their quality. Based on the Japanese tale “The Tale of Bamboo Cutter” and directed by Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies), Princess Kaguya is about a man and wife who find a small child inside a bamboo stalk, and when she grows up, she’s courted by five men.
Handling the film’s US release is GKIDS, a distribution company that’s handled Academy Award nominated films like Ernest & Celine and A Cat in Paris with an October 7th release date. Just in time for awards season. You’ll find the English voice cast after the cut.
