After The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s dubious quality (although I was a fan!) and tepid box office performance, it seems Sony’s taking a step back with this franchise. In a classic case of “counting chickens before they hatch,” Sony steps away from its plan to make annual Spider-Man films (one a year), to releasing them two years apart. While that doesn’t seem like a bold move, it’s refreshing.
In fact, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is pushed all the way to May 4th, 2018 with Sinister Six (the all villain spin-off teased by an Alicia Keys song) coming out beforehand on November 11th, 2016. There must be some tumultuous happenings going on for the third film to get pushed that far back. Well, at least we’ve got some breathing room now. Anyone still want this?
