The Judd Apatow produced, Paul Reubens written Pee-Wee Herman movie has been kicking around for quite some time, but it ever actually happening seemed a long shot. What studio would release something quite so weird and risky? Universal had it, but barely moved. Turns out it’s Netflix, who is now in talks to produce the film and thus most likely bring it exclusively to the streaming service.
The Wrap reports that the studio plans to start shooting this coming February and that means that more announcements, like an official title, can’t be that far off. We’re assuming Ruebens will star, but no director has been named yet. The real good news is that with the film landing on Netflix we’re guessing the creators got a lot more freedom and can make Pee-Wee as fantastically odd as he can be.
