By Get ready for another round in the chair – Barbershop 3 has found a director, Deadline reports.
Malcolm D. Lee is in talks to direct the third film in the Barbershop franchise. Stars Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer expected to return, but it’s not yet known what other cast members may return, if any. The film doesn’t yet have an announced release date.
Lee’s most recent credit was 2013’s The Best Man Holiday, but has also directed films like Scary Movie 5, Soul Men and Undercover Brother. As well as Barbershop 3, Lee has announced he will direct The Best Man Wedding, expected to hit theaters in 2016.
The original Barbershop, directed by Tim Story, was an undeniable hit, earning $77 million on a $12 million budget. The film focused on Calvin Palmer, Jr., and his struggles to maintain a barbershop on the South Side of Chicago, which he inherited from his father. The comedy spawned a sequel – 2004’s Barbershop 2: Back in Business, directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan – as well as a 2005 series on Showtime, which saw Omar M. Gooding stepping in to play Palmer. Queen Latifah also starred in a spinoff, 2005’s Beauty Shop, in which she reprised her role from Barbershop 2.
