The ever-expanding cast of DC Comics’ Suicide Squad has gotten a bit larger – Warner Bros. has announced that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has joined the cast, playing giant-lizard man Killer Croc in the upcoming film based on the popular comic series. Akinnuoye-Agbaje is perhaps best known for his time on ABC’s Lost in which he played the taciturn Mr. Eko, an island castaway who, get this, had a mysterious and ominous past (spoilers: he was an African drug smuggler who then pretended to be a priest before getting killed by a monster made of smoke that looked like his dead, actually-a-priest brother. Lost was weird sometimes, y’all). The actor is also known for his work as Adebisi from HBO’s Oz and Algrim/Kurse in Thor: The Dark World.
In the comics, Killer Croc most often crosses paths with Batman. In most versions of his origin he’s a tough-as-nails dude with a rare medical condition that gives him the inherited abilities of ancient reptiles; sometimes he’s just a scaly dude with claws and sharp teeth and sometimes he has a straight-up crocodile head (DC Comics are weird a lot of the time, y’all). Croc is the third villain traditionally tied to Bats announced for the movie, joining Jared Leto’s Joker and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Aside from Leto and Robbie, Akinnuoye-Agbaje will star alongside a who’s who of talent playing DC Comics antiheroes – Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. That’s a pretty big cast, and it obviously remains to be seen how large of a role Akinnuoye-Agbaje will have, especially next to bigger names like Davis, Smith and Leto. Maybe he can bring that big stick covered in Bible verses to make himself stand out a bit.
