I stand by blu-rays for two types of movies– colorfully visual movies and animated productions. It goes without saying that the films of Studio Ghibli are some of the best looking to make the jump to HD since the films started rereleasing stateside over the past few years. It could be hard, though, to scrounge up each and every film as the releases trickled out, but now there’s an easier solution heading to Amazon this fall.
The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki will be available exclusively on Amazon on November 17th and will contain all the films directed by Hayao Miyazaki (starting with Lupin the Third and ending with The Wind Rises) as well as a few episodes of anime shows directed by Miyazaki, a recording of his retirement conference, and an included book exploring the themes and history of his many features.
Those of you looking for a complete Ghibli collection may still need to continue hunting for a while (films by other directors such as Grave of the Fireflies aren’t included here) but if the work’s of Miyazaki interest you more than the others, this set will be a must have cornerstone for any animated collection.
