Today the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association, of which I am a member, revealed its award winners for the past year. Spotlight was named the best picture, but George Miller pulled in the award for best director for Mad Max: Fury Road. Though I voted for Mad Max as the best picture of the year Spotlight is easily a close second and a truly powerful film.
Along with this comes Leonardo DiCaprio’s first win of the year for his performance in The Revenant. The film was screened very late so earlier awards may have had less of a chance to catch it, but his performance is legendary. Maybe this year he won’t be snubbed yet again by the academy.
You can see the rest of the winners on the WAFCA page, but I will say that if you haven’t seen Jacob Tremblay in Room you need to now.
