Jude Law is young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts sequel

Yesterday, news broke that Jude Law will portray Albus Dumbledore, beloved character and Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in the sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Fantastic Beasts is loosely tied to the canon Potter materials in that it’s the title of a textbook oft referred to within the original books. It’s more tightly tied to the originals in that JK Rowling wrote the screenplay. And she’s done so again for the sequel.

However, casting has had me raise one eyebrow or two. First, we had Colin Farrell, which made little sense. Now, we have Watson Jude Law and not only do we have him, but we have him adopting the personage of one of the most central characters from the original Stories.

As you can see, they’re clearly the same person:

So, he passes the eye test, but can Jude show enough range to capture such a benevolent goodie?

Hard to say.

But the important matter I need cleared up is why they continue to cast former heartthrobs for these movies (Farrell, Law, Depp)? The originals were predominantly cast with non-A-list actors, and for the better, I say! At least they’ve stopped short of casting Tom Cruise. But on the other hand, maybe it’s time an American got the chance to use a British accent rather than the other way around. You’re not the only ones who can do it, Brits! Don’t think we don’t know what’s going on here you limey bastards.

I don’t even know if I spelled limey right.
