If there is one thing that Martin Lawrence wants to have happen it’s for a new Bad Boys movie to come. The guy pretty much talks about it any time he makes a public appearance, but last we heard it was all dead in the water, and that was from the mouth of the man who most wanted it to happen.
“Not so fast,” says Sony! “We’re not done beating this dead horse over here.”
Deadline is reporting that the studio has tapped Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah to direct the third film, which will see both Lawrence and Will Smith return. The two don’t have much to their name, but they seem to be trending upward in Hollywood after directing Black.
The third film in the series, now called Bad Boys for Life, has been in development hell since the second film released. With Smith too busy and no one really sure if anyone actually wants another Bad Boys movie it’s just sort of sat around. But now Sony is actually pushing it forward it seems as they’ve even set an August start date to begin shooting. Bold movie, Sony. Bold move.
I couldn’t be less excited. Action cinema has come a long way since Lawrence and Smith bickered on screen, and it’s got a lot better in almost every way. Maybe their chemistry can save it, but Bad Boys just feels like a relic of the past, and it should stay that way.
