Unsane, the questionably titled first horror film from Steven Soderbergh, landed a trailer that was pretty good. It established its setup and escalating stakes well and offered plenty of glimpses at the manic atmosphere of the asylum. This new clip on the other hand?
It undermines everything the trailer set out to do.
It’s just a boring scene shot in a bland manner with stilted acting and no music in which Sawyer asks to use the phone, gets the phone to use, calls 911, and is told that the police get calls from there all the time. Then, she replies that those were crazy people. Most of this was in the trailer.
I doubt this clip is any indicator of the overall quality of the film, but that’s yet to be seen. There have been plenty of films where a normal person is held against his/her will at an asylum in which said person might be crazy after all, so I’m not sure how this one will differentiate itself. Here’s hoping for good things, though.
Unsane is hitting theaters March 23, 2018.
