By Captain Marvel has added Gemma Chan to its cast, as the Kree geneticist Minn-Erva.
In her comic incarnation, Minn-Erva comes to earth looking for Captain Mar-Vell in hopes of obtaining his modified Kree genes, in hopes of furthering the Kree race. She possesses powers similar to Captain Marvel, including enhanced strength and the ability to fly.
Gemma Chan currently stars as one of the android Synths in the BBC series Humans, which starts its third series later this year. She also recently played the antagonist Quintessa in Transformers: The Last Knight and made a brief appearance as Madam Ya Zhou in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Chan’s Minn-Erva joins confirmed characters Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Jude Law’s Mar-Vell, and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Ben Medelsohn and DeWanda Wise will also appear in the film in unknown roles.
Details of Captain Marvel’s plot are scarce, aside from confirmation that it will take place in the 90’s and feature Captain Marvel fighting off a Skrull invasion.
Since it takes place in the past, I wonder if Nick Fury will have both of his eyes. Maybe we’ll even get the story of what happened to it. Hopefully a post-credits scene where he has an unfortunate mishap with a BB gun.
Captain Marvel is set to premiere March 8, 2019.
