WB and DC are still adamant that they can make the DCEU work, and Shazam! is their next attempt at it. The difference is that they’re actually doing something different with it this time. The film is supposed to be a drastic departure from the Zack Snyder style, with humor and bright colors and possibly even a character or two smiling! Can you imagine that. You don’t get much out of the logo here as it could fit into any flick, but it’s the kickoff of marketing for the film.
While Wonder Woman finally delivered us a good DC movie, Justice League could not deliver on that same level and performed far under expectations so Shazam!is going to be a key moment for the DCEU that could drive the entire franchise in a different direction. If the movie, about a 14-year-old boy who gains super powers and turns into an adult superhero when he yells “SHAZAM!”, is a success then DC might start taking their entire series in a different direction, or at least try to make them a bit more fun here or there.
Obviously, they have to do something. We’ll get our first taste of what that something is with a live thing that EW is doing today.
