Boots Riley’s first feature, Sorry to Bother You looks like it’s going to be a very surreal good time. We have telemarketer, Cassius using his white voice to achieve success and enter what looks like it’s going to be the very bizarre world of corporate power.
David Cross plays said white voice, and it’s so weird and wonderful, and I’m very pumped to see where Riley’s sense of humor takes the film.
And if you’re also pumped for this movie that isn’t out yet, the producers have set up a merch store, already. Now, you can use it to buy earrings and other shit, but let’s cut to the chase. They’re selling a car. The store assures me it’s “an actual car,” and it costs an actual car price at $23,999.40. Hopefully shipping is free, since the only other bullet point on the item page is “Drives?” Of course, this does beg the question of whether or not a car is an actual car, if it can’t drive. Also, it may not have windshield wipers.
But car aside, this film looks like a blast, and it also scores an interesting cast with Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson leading, and Terry Crews, Danny Glover, and Armie Hammer filling supporting roles.
Sorry to Bother You will have a limited release on July 6, 2018.
