I’m sure there’s some other stuff going on in Godzilla: King of Monsters because WB is building out a whole cinematic universe thing and that requires humans to be in it and their underlying Monarch subplot to continue, but man does this movie just looks like one giant monster fight. That, by the way, is awesome. That is not a bad thing at all.
I mean, how hyped did you get seeing Godzilla start to bull rush Ghidorah in that perfect not-a-man-in-a-rubber-suit way that Gareth Edwards managed to nail so well in the last film. Hell, they even make Mothra look cool, and Mothra is a giant moth. Mothra is not cool.
My only concern here is the change in director for the film. Edwards brought a lot of skill to making Godzilla the hit it was. Not every director is able to handle big monster/disaster films and I’m not sure that Michael Dougherty, the guy that brought us Krampus, is up to the task. However, if he basically does what this trailer says he is going to do, have monsters fight each other, then he’ll do just fine.
