By Shrunken heads, body modifications, bizarre animals–Ripley’s Believe It or Not! was the first continuous dose of weird I received from the television screen as a child. The first time I remember getting freaked out by a TV show was seeing a dude hanging off the bottom of a plane from hooks dug through his skin. It was terrifying and bizarre, and I absolutely adored every second of it.
Now, a fresh generation of children can be fascinated and repulsed by the oddities of the world in the Travel Channel’s upcoming reboot of the show. Added to that excitement is that producers have retained the talents of the best possible man to pull hosting duties, the one and only Bruce Campbell.
As the cult icon puts Ash behind him and relaxes into a sort of retirement, he might as well put that voice and charm to good use selling us on some of the weirdest stories the world has to offer. He’s a stellar fit, and I can’t wait to see it for myself.
