The war rages on in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s Season 2 trailer

Season 2 Trailer | SHE-RA AND THE PRINCESSES OF POWER

When She-Ra and the Princesses of Power released on Netflix last November, it developed a fairly modest yet strong fanbase. The series took a franchise that, let’s be honest here, was designed solely for the purpose of selling toys and fleshed it out to a surprising degree, filling it with positive LGBT representation and likable characters. The series is still 100% set on selling toys, but now those toys stand for something meaningful instead of “girl version of a boy’s cartoon.”

I’m surprised that we’re getting a second season of She-Ra so soon after the original season wrapped, but it’s coming soon and Netflix released the first trailer for the upcoming season at Wondercon. In it, we see She-Ra leading the princess rebellion in their fight against the Horde with her former partner/friend Catra slowly gaining more power and authority in the Horde. Battle lines will be drawn, fights will be had, and Bow will still be full of forced humor. At least it seems certain that there’ll be more action in the second season. It’s not that the first season lacked any action, because it was more interested in developing new characters and introducing us to the world they lived in, but seeing some good fight scenes are always a plus.

My one reservation is that the animation continues to be… fine. Compared to other animated shows on Netflix like Voltron, She-Ra has always felt a bit cheaper than the rest of them. I can’t really point to any stand out moment of animation from the first season and I can’t even remember any truly inspiring character designs outside of Shadow Weaver, who I hope makes an appearance this season. It should be noted that instead of having a standard 13 episode season, expect a reduced run of only seven episodes, which should give us a leaner run with little padding.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 2 will drop on Netflix April 26, 2019.
