That cameo at the end of Shazam! was supposed to be an actual cameo

Spoilers for the end of Shazam! incoming

If you stayed just a little bit longer after Shazam! ended you saw a bit of a cameo in it. Superman shows up to surprise all the kid’s, and specifically Freddy, at school. It’s a fun little bit of fluff that ties the film into the DCEU, while still keeping it pretty much its own thing. The weird thing is that we don’t see his face. The story put out there was that this was because Cavill couldn’t get to the shooting due to some scheduling conflicts. That’s basically been confirmed by the movie’s producer. Peter Safran, in a recent interview with ComicBook.com.

“At one point, we’d hoped it was going to be Cavill doing it, but unfortunately his schedule didn’t allow him to do it,” Safran said. “We still wanted to do it anyway, and it turned out to be better, because it let us do a hard cut on Freddy’s reaction, because if we had Cavill there, we’d actually written lines, they had a dialogue, but then it’s a little bit of a hat on hat, because really what it’s about is Freddy’s reaction, so we got to get out on that.”

That’s a nice little bit of spin, but the real mystery here is why Cavill couldn’t take a day to shoot this cameo. I think we all know the answer: it’s still up in the air if he’s even going to be Superman in the future. If they could spend the money to digitally remove his mustache they could have digitally put his face in or just flown him to the shoot quickly. If WB wanted Cavill in the movie he would have been in the movie. The Superman cameo went fine, but what really speaks volumes is the lack of a Henry Cavill cameo.
