By Spider-Man: Far From Home came in second ever on July 4th, but over the weekend it made up the loss and delivered the largest six-day opening ever with $185 million. Six day openings aren’t actually all the common so Spidey didn’t have that big a hurdle to climb, but it’s still a stunning feat and one again affirms that the MCU has strong days ahead despite its first story arch coming to an end.
Believer it or not, Far From Home was not the only movie to open over the July 4th weekend, either. The other film, Midsommar, did incredibly well too, becoming the biggest indie opening of the year with $6.56 over the three-day weekend and $11 million for the six-day. Given the constant buzz around the film (both good and bad) the movie should have some stellar legs for A24. It also has very little competition coming as art-house horror films are few and far between right now.
With nothing opening next weekend aside from Crawl and Stuber, we’ll very likely see a repeat of this weekend’s box office.
