With its debut still slated for later this year, exclusively on Disney+, the Mandalorian speeder isn’t docking for a tune-up.
Speaking to Collider at a press event for The Lion King, which he directed, Favreau revealed that he was “writing Season 2 [of The Mandalorian] this morning.” He went on to discuss some of The Mandalorian‘s intricate pre-production.
“We’re doing live-action production… using the Epic game engine and using that to do real-time in-camera visual effects. So if you visited the set for The Mandalorian you would’ve seen a completely video-wall wrapped stage and… either blue screen or full digital versions of set extensions in the background… We could have the game engine be used for creating effects in a timeframe that allows us to get a TV season done.”
Certainly look at Collider’s full interview, as it’s interesting stuff. To create a Star Wars, Disney-worthy experience for the small screen, Favreau and co. would seem to be laying track as they move forward, so to speak. And with something as ambitious and anticipated as The Mandalorian, the stakes are high for the team to deliver a quality product and then more of it, in an era of binge-watching and short attention-spans.
Outside of some footage shown to lucky Star Wars Celebration attendees, we’ve only caught stills of the upcoming bounty hunter story. There should be a lot more in that department as we near The Mandalorian‘s November 12 premiere.
