Chalk this up from the start as a big-time rumor, but you can’t help but get excited when Tarantino himself starts to bring up a potential third Kill Bill film. Or would it be the second..? That’s another argument!
Tarantino was shooting the breeze about his upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on the Happy Sad Confused podcast when the long-discussed third film came up, and his words don’t dismiss the notion.
“Me and Uma have talked about it recently, frankly, to tell you the truth. I have thought about it a little further. We were talking about it literally last week. If any of my movies were going to spring from my other movies, it would be a third Kill Bill.”
That’s it! No fresh words from Uma Thurman on the matter, though years ago she seemed interested in more Bill-killing. For as cheap as talk is, and for as many undeveloped projects Tarantino has hinted at, Kill Bill is a favorite among favorites for a lot of Tarantino-acolytes. And like the man says, it makes the most sense to continue the Beatrix Kiddo story to its conclusion, and an act of revenge against the original revenger colors the original film in all sorts of interesting ways. Referring to the thread hinted at in the opening scenes of Vol. 1, this longtime-Tarantino nerd is.
With rumors of a Star Trek film persisting what feels like longer than usual and more rumbling from Tarantino on an imminent retirement, who knows when a new Kill Bill film could materialize? If nothing else, it’s fun to think about.
