Sony Pictures delays a bunch of movies to 2021 while Venom 2 is still on track for this year

Sony Pictures has announced that a swath of films will be getting delayed into 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Curiously, Venom 2 is not one of those. The movies affected include Spider-Man spin-off Morbius, reboot/sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and the perpetually troubled Uncharted adaptation. I guess the symbiote is too strong to stop.

IGN was able to confirm that Venom 2 is still slated for an October 2, 2020 release. I suppose the hope is that this virus will be contained by October, though WHO officials aren’t so sure. The Sony distributed Monster Hunter is also still on for September 4, 2020, so that’s something to look forward to.

As for the others, Uncharted is now primed for an October 8, 2021 date. This comes after news of a six-week production delay that is likely the main culprit. Morbius is now scheduled for March 19, 2021, with Ghostbusters releasing a few weeks earlier on March 5, 2021. Another untitled Sony and Marvel film has been shifted to a TBD date to make room for Uncharted.

I’d like to say I’m surprised with Uncharted, but I’m really not. This is almost business as usual with the film.
