By In a shocking turn of events that anyone with half of a brain could have seen coming, Disney has decided to delay its live-action remake of Mulan one final time. If you couldn’t guess, this delay is in relation to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that is starting to surge up again in America. Now scheduled for an August 21, 2020, release, Disney is even pushing back the opening of its California based theme park in accordance to local health guidelines.
“While the pandemic has changed our release plans for Mulan and we will continue to be flexible as conditions require,” said Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Walt Disney studios, “it has not changed our belief in the power of this film and its message of hope and perseverance. Director Niki Caro and our cast and crew have created a beautiful, epic, and moving film that is everything the cinematic experience should be, and that’s where we believe it belongs – on the world stage and the big screen for audiences around the globe to enjoy together.”
With the news of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet getting pushed back, I kind of figured studios would wise up and realize that this virus isn’t a laughing matter. I’m as eager as anyone else to get life back to “normal,” but we shouldn’t be putting people at risk for the release of a dumb film.
