By Though things have been relatively quiet across Westeros, HBO’s House of the Dragon has added British actor Paddy Considine in a major role for the Game of Thrones prequel series.
Considine has been tapped to play none other than King Viserys Targaryen, no doubt central to House of the Dragon‘s Targaryen-focused drama. The series, set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, is based on creator George RR Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood, which acts as a chronicle of Targaryen history.
House of the Dragon is being showrun by Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, the later of whom directed several of Game of Thrones‘ largest-scale episodes, including the series finale. Condal is perhaps best known for co-creating the USA series Colony.
With its lackluster final season, it’s easy to forget the time when Game of Thrones absolutely dominated the conversation, sweeping awards, sparking debate, and generally being the thing on everyone’s mind. Dragon is one of several Game of Thrones related projects brewing at HBO, though we caught wind of a Naomi Watts-led prequel series being shut down by the network late last year. No further dates or story details on the prequel series have been set, though a 2022 release is the expectation.
