It feels like we’ve been half-joking Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League into existence for a decade now, generating a collective conscious energy of indifference on some parts and genuine fanaticism for others to manifest what we have before us now: Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a “reborn” version of the 2017 film as the man intended it. And now, with a word from the man and a slew of new posters, we have a release date.

Per a Tweet by Snyder himself, the extended cut of Justice League will premiere on HBO Max March 18, 2021. The new cut of the film is purported to be around four hours long, though it’s unclear whether it will be edited into separate “chapters” when it becomes available on the streaming service, or if it will indeed be a single, lengthy film. For what it’s worth, IMDb lists it (a new, separate listing under its new, official title of Zack Snyder’s Justice League) as a TV series, though this is of course subject to alteration.
Interestingly, Cyborg actor Ray Fisher has excitedly announced the date on his personal Twitter as well. Fisher’s very-public alterations with Warner Bros. over allegations of abuse on the set of the original film, under the direction of Joss Whedon, have been well-documented over the past year, and seem to be ongoing. Whether Fisher’s support of Snyder’s new cut is a sign of a mutual agreement with the studio or simply a bit of professionalism remains to be seen.
With a trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League out in the wild and the new posters looking appropriately grim, now all’s left is to what for the redux to hit the tube. Pore over that sweet, sweet monochrome until the legacy of the (#ReleaseTheSnyderCut) can be laid to rest March 18, 2021. I bet you we get at least one instance of colorized blood.
