Remember when everyone said that Sonic the Hedgehog was going to be a bomb at the box-office? Oh, good times. In a not surprising at all move, Paramount Pictures has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be speeding into theaters on April 8, 2022. While I think that is a way too optimistic date for the film, a sequel is absolutely happening and all the naysayers will need to deal with it.
We don’t have much to go on for what this film will contain, but an end credits sequence from the first movie revealed that Sonic’s longtime partner, Tails, will make an appearance. A new logo shown off in a short teaser even confirms that for those of you who had any doubt. As well as that, a remix of Emerald Hill Zone’s theme from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is featured, which could mean a lot of things.
Couple this film with the new Netflix animated series and it seems Sega is going big on non-video game related Sonic material. With no new installment in the series since 2017’s dual releases of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, maybe we’re in for some retro-tinged treat next year. Either way, your kids will be happy to know that the blue blur will continue his journey on the big screen in the near future.
