By A new report from Deadline has confirmed that a Superman reboot is currently in the works by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot label. While that initially sounds really bad, acclaimed author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates will be penning the script, hopefully leading us away from the era of the brooding menace we have in the DCEU. It’s like the old monkey’s paw saying, except not done as a poor allegory for Trump-era politics under the guise of being heartfelt and inspirational…wait, that’s a different DC film.
No plot or casting details have been revealed, but the article does mention that actor Henry Cavill is “eager to get back into the cape.” That pretty much confirms that everyone’s “favorite” Superman will be donning the spandex once more. To be fair, Cavill wasn’t an awful fit for the role and could create something memorable if given a better script.
What’s likely being done is DC rebooting the character to remove the previous lousy Synder films while keeping fans happy by not replacing elements that worked. I’m not sure how that will work against the revamped Justice League releasing, but then maybe that’s just a send-off to the dark, miserable era of the DCEU. Let’s just pray that J.J. Abrams doesn’t end up in the director’s chair.
